THE MOST FAMOUS Hollywood love triangle is obviously the one between Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, and Brad Pitt – but aside from the media frenzy that still surrounds it, the events of it are pretty cut and dry.
These celebrity love triangles have twists and turns that make for very juicy reading indeed. Keep it up, famouses.
1. Elizabeth Taylor, Eddie Fisher, and Debbie Reynolds
The OG love triangle, maybe? Here’s how it goes: Debbie and Elizabeth were good friends. Elizabeth fancied Debbie’s husband, Eddie, so she decided to take him.
The revelation of the affair caused a huge scandal in 1950s Hollywood, and the pair quickly married to hush everyone up. In 1962, Liz began an affair with Richard Burton, and her relationship with Eddie was not long for this world.
Debbie was obviously devastated, but later made up with Liz – and the pair mocked their shared husband in a TV movie written by Debbie’s daughter, Carrie Fisher. That’s the way you do it.
2. Hilary Duff, Aaron Carter, and Lindsay Lohan
2004! Such a time. Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff were the princesses of young Hollywood, and of all the men in the world, they chose Aaron Carter to fight over.
Aaron and Hilary had been dating for two years when he ‘got bored’ and decided to chat up Lindsay Lohan – they dated for a few months, and then he went back to Hilary. The girls decided to blame each other instead of the obvious candidate, igniting a huge feud.
Lindsay and Hilary have put it behind them, but Aaron Carter still does subtweets about it from time to time.
3. The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, and Justin Bieber
Selena and Justin had a pretty volatile relationship from 2010 until 2014, but she seemed to be getting over him earlier this year with help from The Weeknd.
They’ve since broken up, Selena and Justin have been spotted ‘going to church together’ (AKA everyone’s fairly sure they’re shifting again), and The Weeknd has just taken up with Biebs’ ex, model Yovanna Ventura. Just stop, guys.
4. Niall Horan, Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran
In 2013, Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding were spotted holding hands at an awards ceremony. Everyone was a bit *eyes emoji* but very little was made of it.
Ed’s 2014 single Don’t was rumoured to be about his short-lived relationship with a fellow singer, and included one scandalous detail – this woman snuck off to have sex with another guy who was staying in the same hotel. On the same floor, to get more specific.
The tabloids immediately linked the song to Ellie, and the guy in it is rumoured to be our own Niall Horan. Ellie later admitted to going on a few dates with Niall. *eyes emoji*
5. Taylor Swift, Joe Jonas, and Gigi Hadid
The breakup of Taylor and Joe in 2008 (he did it over the phone, we may add) sparked a furious song war – she slagged off his new girlfriend, he said his new girlfriend was way better than Taylor actually, you get the picture.
In 2015, Joe started dating model Gigi Hadid, who is a member of Taylor’s squad. We’re going to assume that hanging out wasn’t awkward for them at all.
6. Shania Twain, her husband, and two of their friends
Now we’re on to the love squares, which is where things start getting really complicated.
For many years, Shania was married to music producer Mutt Lange. Mutt then decided to have an affair with Shania’s best friend, Marie-Anne, who was married to a guy called Frederic Thiebaud. Both couples split up as a result of the infidelity, and now Shania is married to Frederic. Mad.
7. Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Blac Chyna, and Rob Kardashian
This one really made our heads hurt. Here’s how we broke it down for ourselves:
- Tyga was engaged to Blac Chyna from 2012 to 2014. They had a son together.
- Tyga later started dating Kylie Jenner.
- Chyna then moved in on Kylie’s older brother, Rob Kardashian, and the pair got engaged and pregnant within a few months of dating.
- This made for a confusing few months where no one could figure out how Kylie would be related to the new baby. There were lots of flowcharts:
Neither couple is still together, clearing up all that mess fairly nicely. TG.
